The Ontario Government is committed to implementing Rowan’s Law by putting concussion safety information in the hands of people who need it most. Increasing awareness and changing conversations in sport, at school and in our homes, will result in important changes to the way in which concussions are managed in amateur competitive sport and beyond. Maple Leaf Cavan FC is guided and directed by the Ontario Soccer Concussion Policy and Procedures for Return to Play: Certain aspects of the Rowan’s Law legislation came into effect on July 1, 2019. All Games are played at the same time & same location every week. Season End Festival for ALL Divisions on Saturday August 15, 2026, at Maple Leaf Park. The Festival will include Medals, pizza, food trucks, a BBQ, photo booth, bouncy castles & more! When you play with MLCFC Youth house league you choose your field location when registering and will play at the same location and at the same time every week. Adults will play at Maple Leaf Park on Fridays at 6:30 or 7:50 p.m. (where possible the schedule will have alternating kick off times to equalize the number of early/late games for every team). Please note that friend requests will be open until March 1st. For support, safety, and fun, each child must have a parent or guardian on the field with them during activities and games. Your role is to help guide, encourage, and keep your child engaged—no soccer experience required! The Cavan FC Grassroots Development Program is an optional skills-based add-on program designed for players registered in the Cavan FC House League who want extra development beyond their weekly game. This program provides an additional weekly training session focused on individual skill development in a fun, supportive, and age-appropriate environment. Program will run Friday evenings in June and July. U3 & U5 players also receive a MLCFC soccer ball for the fun skills & drills training included during their game. All players receive pizza and a Year End Festival on August 15, 2026 at Maple Leaf Park. All registered players will receive a year end award We **do not** require cleats for the U3 age group; however, shin guards are required. All other age groups: Shin guards **are required** and cleats **are recommended**. However, running shoes are just fine for all ages! Maple Leaf Cavan FC is governed by Ontario Soccer, the Canadian Soccer Association and FIFA and is therefore subject to the Laws of the Game. Players are not permitted to wear hats or any type of jewellery (necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather bands, rubber bands, etc.) You will receive a confirmation email with your registration details. A coach will be in contact with you 1-2 weeks before game day to let you know which team you are on and where to get your uniform. Registration is **Online ONLY** with payment by credit card. Mixed Adults (25+) is players born 2001 or earlier. **U3-U13 Divisions** - 11 weeks + End of Year Festival - starting week of May 25, 2026 and ending week of August 10, 2026. Year End Festival on August 15, 2026 at Maple Leaf Park (No games week of June 22). **Mixed Adult 25+** - 12 weeks + Year End Tournament - begins week of May 22, 2026 and ends week of August 21, 2026. Year End Festival Sunday August 23, 2026 at Maple Leaf Park. If games are cancelled because of wet field conditions we will extend the season, max 1 game. As the season starts, please check the schedules page on a regular basis. Kids love playing during the rain however thunderstorms can be very dangerous. It is the match official’s responsibility to call the game if they feel safety is an issue – **this will be done at the field.**  Games will only be cancelled if the township closes the fields and players will be notified. Games cancelled due to a field closure (prior to the game start – i.e. this is not applicable when the game is called on the field) will be added to the end of the season (max 1 game) Games cancelled by the match officials due to thunder will not be added to the end of the season. **Extreme weather announcements issued by Meteorological Services, Environment Canada (e.g. involving tornado watches and warnings) are increasing in frequency. Parents and adult care providers are advised to monitor these alerts and take appropriate action for the safety and well-being of their family. Travel to playing fields should be avoided until the alerts and warnings are lifted. Decisions about whether games will be played will depend on when alerts are lifted.** Games will carry on despite the heat. Players will be provided with additional water breaks and we recommend you bring extra water to the field for your player. It is always up to the individual family to decide whether or not to participate during hot weather. No problem. We understand, things happen. We may be biased but we think we have a pretty fantastic support system/resource section for our coaches. Lots of people start coaching soccer without really knowing the game – that’s ok – you can grow to love soccer with your children – the rules are simple at this level – our focus is on fun, exercise and loving the beautiful game of soccer!  Plus all HEAD coaches get wonderful coaches jerseys… there’s incentive for you.  Most HL teams have parent coaches who started off by just wanting to be involved. **2\. What if I can’t make it to every game but still want to coach?** Many teams have co-coaches or a parent who is willing to fill in for a week if a coach is unavailable. Just let us know on your coaches application form. Absolutely! We will provide confirmation of volunteer hours at the end of the season too! YES! If you volunteer to coach, you will be the coach of your child’s team. Without our volunteer coaches, we wouldn’t have a league. Dribbling is moving the ball while keeping it under control using your feet. Have players dribble inside a small grid while trying to **avoid bumping into other players**. Encourage them to change direction and use both feet. Pair players up about **5–10 metres apart** and have them pass the ball back and forth. Shooting is striking the ball toward the goal to score. Set up small goals and allow players to take turns **dribbling toward goal and shooting**. Shielding means protecting the ball from an opponent using your body. Players work in pairs. One player tries to keep possession while the other gently tries to win the ball. The goal is to provide a quick energy boost without making players feel heavy or sluggish when they return to the field. Water is the best option for hydration during youth soccer games. Some snacks can leave players feeling tired, sluggish, or overly full during the second half. Please ensure that you do everything possible to make it as fair as possible for all players. - No scores or statistics are to be kept. Make it about the fun of the game. - Encourage FUN, fair play, respect, and team work. - Recreational referees are often first year refs. They might not always make the right call but they are trying/learning. Please respect the referees and their calls and ask your parents to do the same. - Coaches are allowed on the field in the U3 and U5 divisions. - With the U3 division, the parent can accompany the player on the field. - Encourage all players to remain with their team when not on the field. Our supplemental training programs are designed to give players of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to continue growing, building confidence, and refining their technical abilities, all in a fun and supportive environment. Whether your child is just starting out or looking to take their game to the next level, our Grassroots Development Program, Future Stars Program, and Performance Institute provide a clear pathway for development throughout the year. Led by our Club Technical Trainers, these programs focus on individual skill development, creativity, and game awareness—helping players develop not only as athletes, but as confident and capable individuals both on and off the field. The **Cavan FC Grassroots Development Program** is an optional skills-based add-on program designed for players registered in the Cavan FC House League who want extra development beyond their weekly game. This program provides an additional weekly training session focused on individual skill development in a fun, supportive, and age-appropriate environment. Program will run Friday evenings in June and July. Players will be trained by Cavan FC Technical Trainers and will learn: The **Cavan FC Future Stars Program** is a fun, development-focused program designed for younger players who want to build confidence with the ball while learning the basic skills of soccer in a positive and engaging environment. This approach helps build confidence, improve coordination, and introduce players to the fundamentals of soccer in an environment that encourages creativity, participation, and enjoyment of the game. The **Cavan FC Performance Institute** is a technical training program designed to provide players with high-quality skill development in a structured and supportive training environment. Led by our Cavan FC Technical Trainers, this program focuses on improving individual technical ability, confidence on the ball, and overall game understanding. The program is designed to support players at an important stage of their development, helping them build strong fundamentals that prepare them for future opportunities within the club’s competitive pathway. Our approach emphasizes development over results, ensuring that players learn the game in a supportive and enjoyable setting while gradually increasing the level of challenge as they grow. The Cavan FC LTPD Program focuses on creating a **player-centred learning environment** where development, enjoyment, and participation are the priority. The program follows the principles outlined by **Canada Soccer and Ontario Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development framework**, which promotes age-appropriate training and competition. Players participate in sessions designed by qualified coaches who focus on building well-rounded athletes through a balanced approach to development. Training incorporates the **Four Corners of Player Development**, which guide how players grow within the game: By focusing on these four areas together, players gain a strong foundation that supports both their athletic development and personal growth. A key element of the LTPD program is **game-based learning**. Players spend a significant portion of training engaged in small-sided games and activities that simulate real match situations. This approach helps players develop technical ability and tactical awareness while making the learning process fun and engaging. By allowing players to experiment, solve problems, and make decisions during play, they build confidence and creativity that will benefit them as they continue to progress in the sport. The Cavan FC LTPD Program serves as an important step within the club’s **overall player development pathway**. Players who continue to progress in their development may have opportunities to move into the club’s **Youth Competitive teams beginning at U14**. Participation in the program requires commitment and a positive attitude toward learning and development. Players do not need to have previously played with Maple Leaf Cavan FC to be considered. Interested players can attend player identification sessions or orientation opportunities offered by the club. This structure allows players to build consistent habits, develop their skills, and apply what they learn in appropriate competitive environments. Coach Louise McLeod has been brought in to lead the training program and is super excited to begin working with all players and coaches. Training with the CFC Performance Institute has been designed to enhance & improve the indoor technical training component of our REP program for all Cavan FC Development and REP teams (U7-U15) and will also be offered to players in the surrounding area. Drawing upon a world-renowned methodology and curriculum, the CFC training program will focus on superior skills-based training which will become the higher standard of training at Cavan FC! This program is designed for players looking to maintain and improve their skills and keep active in soccer proficiency over the fall and winter until indoor Team and Club Technical Training begins in March 2026. Players are required to wear Non-Marking indoor soccer, court or running shoes & shin pads ***\*\*\*Spaces in each session will be limited to maximize individualized player training attention\*\*\**** Drawing upon a world-renowned methodology and curriculum, the CFC training program will focus on superior skills-based training which will become the higher standard of training at Cavan FC! We will deliver this to all players when our Cavan FC Development and Rep Teams begin their indoor technical training sessions in March 2026. This program offers the latest thinking in ball mastery, passing and receiving, 1 v 1 situations, speed and agility, finishing, and small games. It is important to recognize and understand which aspects of soccer need the most attention through the different age groups. This program will break it down so that we concentrate on specialized techniques at the appropriate age levels. It also emphasises how much time needs to be spent on each aspect of the program during a training session to achieve maximum results. These programs are intended for players who are motivated to further challenge themselves and continue progressing within the game. Players participate in multiple training sessions each week led by qualified and certified coaches, following a structured training curriculum that aligns with Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) framework. Training focuses on age-appropriate technical development, tactical understanding, physical literacy, and fostering a lifelong passion for the game. Our Cavan FC teams proudly represent Maple Leaf Cavan FC while competing against clubs from across the region and, at older age groups, against teams from throughout Ontario, Canada, and Internationally. Rep opportunities are available for players beginning at U7 and continuing through to Adult programs. Cavan FC’s Competitive Pathway is built around two key pillars: Long Term Player Development (LTPD) and Youth Competitive programming, providing a progressive pathway that supports players at each stage of their development. The Cavan FC Long Term Development Program provides young players with a high-quality, development-focused environment that prioritizes learning, enjoyment, and skill development. Aligned with Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) framework, this stage focuses on building strong technical foundations, developing physical literacy, and encouraging creativity and confidence with the ball. Training is delivered in a player-centred environment where athletes are introduced to appropriate competition while continuing to develop their individual abilities and understanding of the game. This stage represents a critical step in the Cavan FC player pathway, helping prepare players for future competitive opportunities while fostering a lifelong passion for soccer. We’re excited to welcome campers back for our 5th anniversary summer — with five weeks of action-packed camp filled with sports, games, friendships, and new experiences. This summer, camp returns to Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute, offering an ideal setup for every kind of activity: With expanded programming and an experienced staff team, this year brings even more variety to every camp week. Our camp is centred around soccer, but we’re committed to developing well‑rounded athletes and to ensure kids have fun all day long, through a wide range of sports and games. Maple Leaf Cavan FC is a not-for-profit youth soccer club serving the Cavan-Monaghan and greater Peterborough area, offering programs for players of all ages and skill levels—from introductory programs to competitive soccer. Most programs take place at Maple Leaf Park, Crestwood Secondary School, and surrounding fields in the Cavan-Monaghan/Peterborough area. Specific field locations are shared prior to the start of each season. All registrations are completed online through our registration platform. Links are available on the top right corner of this page and shared through our social media channels when registration opens. **What is the difference between House League and Development/Rep programs?** **How do players move into more competitive programs?** Players can be identified through House League, Development programs, or attend scheduled tryouts. Our coaching staff helps guide players along the appropriate pathway. 2-3 practices weekly sessions plus one game typically Soccer is played in rain. Cancellations due to severe weather or unsafe field conditions will be communicated via email and/or social media. House League uniforms are typically included. Competitive and development programs typically include the uniforms but may require additional uniform purchases. Yes! We are always looking for volunteers. Training and support are provided, and a valid police check is required. Our Facebook page is the best place for real-time updates, program announcements, and reminders. These camps focus on skill development, fun, and keeping players active throughout the summer. The Performance Institute is designed for players looking to take their game to the next level, with structured training led by our technical staff. Yes, all registered players are covered under Ontario Soccer insurance. Yes, our club follows Ontario Soccer guidelines and maintains policies related to: We strive to keep soccer affordable and may offer support through programs or payment plans. In 2024, the Ontario government introduced the **Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement**, a new initiative designed to recognize high school students who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to volunteering and community service throughout their school years. The program encourages students to go beyond the minimum required hours and strive toward higher levels of achievement, with the **Gold Seal** representing the highest standard of dedication, leadership, and impact. At Cavan FC, we fully support this initiative and see it as an incredible opportunity for our players and youth in the community. Our club has always been about more than just soccer. We strive to see our players excel in all areas of life — not just on the pitch, but also academically and within their communities. The **Cavan FC GOLD Program** was created to help our players achieve exactly that. By providing structured, meaningful volunteer opportunities throughout the year, we are helping students build the habits, skills, and experiences they need to succeed — while also working toward one of Ontario’s highest recognitions for youth community involvement. The program is designed to be simple, flexible, and rewarding: Students sign up for the GOLD Program and indicate their availability, interests, and preferred types of volunteer opportunities. Participants can choose from a wide range of roles throughout the year, including: Students accumulate volunteer hours through consistent involvement. The club provides structure and guidance to help participants stay on track and maximize their opportunities. By staying engaged throughout their high school years, participants can work toward achieving the **Gold level of Ontario’s Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement**, demonstrating a strong commitment to leadership and community service. Complete your high school community involvement requirements in a structured, supportive environment. Build confidence, communication, and teamwork skills by working with players, coaches, and fellow volunteers.
